Richard G. Nead

Richard Nead, 89, of Millersburg, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 19, 2026.

Richard was born on January 20, 1937, in Saranac, Michigan, the son of Glen and Demeris (Wovlen) Nead.

In 1955, Richard married Loretta Lyn Smith; together, they shared 52 years of marriage and built a life with family, hard work, travel, and many treasured memories. Loretta preceded him in death on April 19, 2011. Richard later married Flor on June 24, 2019.

Richard was a hard working man who spent much of his life in the auto body business. He owned and operated two auto body shops in the Lansing area. In the early 1980s, Richard and Loretta moved to Naples, Florida, where he continued working in the auto body industry and owned another shop. He also worked in shipping and receiving for the Daily Newspaper.

After retirement, Richard and Loretta sold their home and began new adventures traveling across the United States by motor coach. Together, they participated in arts and crafts shows, worked at campgrounds, and enjoyed seeing much of the country, especially the Western states.

In 2011, Richard returned to Michigan to live with his daughter. He later moved to Northern Michigan in the Indian River area before making Millersburg his home in 2018.

Richard was happiest when he could stay busy and enjoy the outdoors. He loved fishing, mowing the grass, gardening, collecting coins, and playing online games. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and the time he spent with family.

Surviving are his wife, Flor; 3 children, Teresa Heise, Richard Jr., and Robin Nead; 7 stepchildren, Kent Mercial, May Flor, Kim Floremer, Frencis Nino, Cristine, Karen Rose, and Monica Hera; 2 grandchildren, Angela (Austin) Olmstead, and Autumn Hoffman; 4 great-grandchildren, Zachary (Aurora), Haley, Leonard, Charles, Clara, and Matilda; 2 brothers, Ronald and Dennis (Nancy) Nead; and a sister, Kathy (Walt) Powell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta, on April 19, 2011, and a sister-in-law, Rose Nead.
